While she is no stranger to television, having starred in the short-lived sci-fi series Threshold and the short-lived cop drama Karen Sisco as well as guest starring roles on Californication and Entourage, actress Carla Gugino has made a name for herself in films such as The Watchmen, the Spy Kids franchise, Race to Witch Mountain and most recently Mr. Popper’s Penguins, she will be coming back to TV in the lead role in the new TNT movie HIDE, which is based on the book by Lisa Gardner.

Her lead role in the made-for-TV movie will be that of Boston police detective D.D. Warren. The story will revolve around Warren, who will investigate the mummified remains of six missing women found inside a buried chamber at an abandoned mental hospital. The case will lead Warren to investigate Annabelle, a woman with a secret past and twisted family history.

Hide is part of the cable network’s new lineup of original movies under its upcoming TNT Mystery Movie Night that will feature six contemporary crime dramas based on true-crime stories and fictional mysteries. Other projects in the this new franchise include Good Morning, Killer.

TNT will launch its Mystery Movie Night franchise in November.

Carla Gugino goes straight to the web in Girl Walks Into a Bar

Stop me if you’ve heard this one: Carla Gugino and director Sebastian Gutierrez make a movie together. Wait, you have? Well, this one is new.

The filmmaker and the sexy actress have (besides IRL) collaborated a number of times — WOMEN IN TROUBLE, RISE, ELEKTRA LUXX, the cable movie SHE CREATURE, etc. Their latest is the oddball comedy GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR, the first major motion picture created exclusively for online distribution.

Gutierrez says: “We want to prove that Web distribution is a viable medium for theatrical quality movies which rely on story, characters and dialogue as opposed to special effects. For many reasons the theatrical indie landscape has changed drastically in the last few years, leaving many potential breakout hits without an audience.  We are excited to break the rules of feature films by letting people watch our movie for free online.”

GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR connects a group of apparent strangers over one night across 10 bars throughout Los Angeles. Zachary Quinto (STAR TREK) stars as a dentist who teams up with a feisty would-be assassin (Carla Gugino) to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife.  Once he makes a play for the assassin’s payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a cross-town journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong club scattered across Los Angeles. Along the way, we are introduced to a series of idiosyncratic characters, from gangsters (Danny DeVito) to exotic dancers (Emmanuelle Chriqui, Alexis Bledel), from ex-cons (Robert Forster) to cops (Josh Hartnett, Gil Bellows), with the odd hatcheck girl (Rosario Dawson) and bartender (Amber Valletta) thrown in for good measure.

MILF – Carla Gugino Cast as Lead

There’s plenty of people, male and female alike, who’d agree that Carla Gugino is quite a beauty. Though she played mother to Malin Akerman (another hot lady) in Watchmen, Gugino is actually only seven years older than Akerman. Now 24 Frames is reporting she’ll take on another motherly role in MILF, but the role probably isn’t in line with the dirty thoughts that are filling many fanboys’ heads right now. In this case the acronym actually refers to “Mothers I’d Like to Fight” with a revenge story that follows a woman recently released from prison who returns to the street to take care of unfinished business. That’s one bad mother!

Carla Gugino has signed on to the revenge thriller Faster, a co-production of CBS Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. The film is being produced by Castle Rock Entertainment’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer, a longside Tony Gayton and Robert Teitel. Joe Gayton and Dara Weintraub are executive producers.

Carla Gugino is reuniting with Watchmen director Zack Snyder for SuckerPunch, coming to theaters on March 25, 2011.

The Warner Bros./Legendary project follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

Gugino will play a nurse in the insane asylum who becomes a madam at a brothel in the film’s alternate reality. Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Abbie Cornish co-star.

The movie begins shooting in early fall.
